Western Heights Drop Redoubt.

Along with the Citadel this was the first defences to be built. Construction took place between 1804 and 1808 although it was modernised in the 1860's when the outer caponiers were added. It has been partly restored and the surrounding ditch is clear. It was entered via a bridge that led to the main gate.

A huge fortification begun during the Napoleonic Wars and completed in the 1860s, designed to protect Dover from French invasion. Only the moat can be visited.

The Timeball Tower,Situated on Deal's historic seafront.

The site where the Timeball Tower stands has long been used as a signalling site. As long ago as Tudor times bonfires were lit on the shingle beach close by to advise ships in the Downs anchorage of the arrival of mail.
